Summary

Med Associates is looking for a practical, hands-on Electrical and Embedded Systems Engineer ready to take on the diverse needs of a small company. We are looking for someone ready to develop new products and take them through production but also happy to quickly take care of the smaller day-to-day projects needed to sustain a large product line. The ideal candidate will have the hands-on experience to test prototypes, the ability to work well with both the production and sales teams and the drive to take full ownership of projects.

Med Associates is a high mix, low volume manufacturer of electro-mechanical scientific equipment with full vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities in house. In this position you will work alongside a team of Mechanical, Electrical, Software and Customer Support engineers as well as working closely with the production team to solve problems, increase efficiency and bring products to market.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Embedded System Design – Develop conceptual electrical analog and digital circuit designs to support new or updated products. This includes the development of initial electrical requirements based on an initial project requirement.
  • PCB Design – Develop schematics and layout for surface mount PCBs to support established design requirement. Engineering coordination of in-house pick-and-place fabrication and outside PCB vendors to execute designs.
  • Firmware Development – The development, testing and implementation of embedded systems and firmware using industry standard best practices.
  • Electrical Testing and Validation – The testing and validation of new and redesigned electrical components and electrical support of finished product testing.
  • Project Management – Coordination of the above activities and other projects and initiatives within the Engineering Group as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer, preferably in an electro-mechanical design and manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of three years’ experience designing PCB’s including both circuit design and PCB layout
  • Motivated and forward-thinking team player with excellent communication skills, ability to work directly with people of varying backgrounds, have a strong technical foundation, superior attention to detail, and be able to work independently and/or with a cross-functional group
  • Experience managing a complete product development cycle from initial design specifications through complete manufacturing documentation.
  • Technical skills include analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture and layout, PCB layout, embedded system development, firmware development, test engineering, and detailed engineering and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art electrical design software tools (Altium preferred)
  • Experience working with surface mount PCB technology.

 

The ideal candidate will also have experience with one or more of the specific items below:

  • Stepper motors
  • FPGA’s
  • Design for EMC and EMC (pre-) compliance testing
  • USB peripherals, SPI and I2C bus
  • Basic DC-DC converters
  • Basic analog filters
  • Analog design of sensor interfaces
  • Debouncing circuits
  • LCD screens and graphical user interfaces
  • Altium Designer
  • Microcontrollers
  • Building prototypes including SMD components
  • Hardware & Software debugging using Logic Analyzers and Oscilloscopes
  • Digital Signal Processing
  • Other software coding experience

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • This is an indoor, primarily, office-based job requiring the use of a computer
  • Use of hands is required to occasionally operate various equipment and handheld tools
  • The employee will be required to wear safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment as needed
